Showcase Artifact 1
Showcase Artifact 1 of my e-portfolio is meant to show who I was when I started my honors journey versus who I am now as a soon-to-be graduate.
During the winter semester of my freshman year at IUPUI, I enrolled in a course called H200: Introduction to Honors, which was designed to introduce students to the IUPUI Honors College and equip us for future success. As part of the course, we were tasked with creating “I am” and “I want to become” statements, meant to capture who we were at the time and who we aspired to become during our time at IUPUI.

Now, two years later, I’m revisiting those statements to reflect on my journey and evaluate the progress I’ve made since then.

"I am"
"I am hard-working as I always put forth my best effort in everything that I do. I am kind and I am passionate about helping others. I am perseverant as I refuse to give up when things get difficult. I am responsible and I am always prepared."

"I am"
"My values since I first became a college/honors student still hold true. I am a motivated and reliable young professional who always gives my best effort, no matter the task. I stay determined when challenges come up, finding ways to push through and keep moving forward. I genuinely enjoy helping and supporting others, and I take pride in being dependable, organized, and ready for whatever comes my way."

"I want to become"
"So far, adjusting to college has not been a very easy transition for me. Throughout my time at IUPUI and in the Honors College, I want to become a student who thrives both inside and outside of the classroom. I want to become someone who not only performs well academically, but also is involved in different student organizations and finds time to volunteer frequently. I also want to become someone who can balance their education, work life, and social life. As much as I want to have a great GPA, I also want to be able to focus on other things too, such as getting a job or an internship. I want to graduate and then pursue a Master’s Degree.
Most importantly, I want to become more confident in myself and my abilities. I tend to put myself down and talk negatively about myself, but I want to stop doing that. I want to stop worrying and overthinking about nearly every aspect of my life, because I feel like I am holding myself back. I want to become someone who doesn’t feel like the need to be perfect all the time. This is definitely easier said than done, but I feel like I can become a happier person by learning how to let some things go."

"I want to become"
Looking back on this statement, I feel proud of how far I’ve come. Anxiety has been a significant challenge in my life, and while it’s something I still deal with—and likely always will—I’ve learned to manage it in ways that allow me to thrive. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA while balancing work, volunteering, and multiple internships is an achievement I am truly proud of, and it reminds me of the strength and resilience I’ve built along the way.

There is a quote that reads "Perfectionists often miss out on life because they're too busy trying to make it perfect." I have learned over time that being perfect is impossible to obtain, and that the real value is found in getting better each and every day.

"I am" / "I want to become" Reflection
Looking back on my 3 yrs at IU Indy, I am very proud of the person that I have become. I had a very rough adjustment period to college, and during that time I didn't know if I would even make it through a single semester. I faced a lot of imposter syndrome and questioned whether or not I deserved to be here in the Honors program. The "I am" activity helped me tremendously, as I have struggled throughout my life with confidence and saying nice things about myself. It helped me realize that there are features about me that I love and admire.

Though I still have a long way to go, I have came a long way in terms of dealing with perfectionism and the anxiety that comes along with it.

"Journey Map"
In this same H200 course, we were also tasked with making a journey map. A journey map is a visual representation of the steps someone takes to complete a task or achieve a goal. Pictured on the left is my journey map from 2023, and it is crazy to see how far I have came in achieving my goals in two years. Currently, my next step after graduation is to pursue an MBA. Reflecting back, the only piece of my map that looks different in 2025 is that I have pushed off my flight attendant career path. I am looking to pursue a career in HR first, then look for flight attendant opportunities down the line. You never know what life may bring!

"Journey Map" Reflection
I used to think that if I had a plan, and if I veered off that plan, then I had failed. I have learned; however, how that isn't the case. Throughout many of my courses, I have been taught that "Change is the only constant." As change happens, you must adapt. I enjoyed creating a high-level view of my future plan, but I understand that certain pieces may change... and that is OK.
